    Mireille Mathieu, the famous French singer, was born on July 22, 1946, in the provincial town of Avignon, in a poor family of a bricklayer.

    She was the eldest among her fourteen siblings. At the age of 13, Mireille left the school she disliked, where she was an average student, and started working in a factory. Singing was her only passion. She sang in the church choir and duet with her father, who was an opera enthusiast.

    Mireille's path to international recognition began at the age of 16 when she, the oldest daughter in a large family of an Avignon bricklayer, won a talent competition.
